JBSA SUMMER SURF CAMP, SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TEXAS
At Jacob Burks Surf Academy, more than offering a surfing experience, we create surfers. We believe that surfers stand at the top of the beach life hierarchy because of their deep connection to the ocean.
Our mission is to share that connection with our campers by teaching everything about surfing, ocean safety, and beach ecology during every camp session.
Through our integrated and comprehensive surf camp program, we take each camper to the next level of surfing while educating them about everything they might face on a day at the beach. Exploring the world of life found on the beach, protecting and preserving our environment for future generations, and equipping each camper to safely shred the waves, JBSA is the ultimate surf camp where learning, adventure, and respect for the ocean come together here on our beautiful South Padre Island.
WHAT WE BUILD TOGETHER
Surfing Fundamentals: Learning to paddle, pop up, reading ocean conditions, wave selection, and proper shredding.
Ocean Awareness: Understanding waves, currents, tides, wind and ocean rescue protocols.
Balance and Strength Training: Land-based exercises and surf specific drills designed to improve balance, coordination, agility, and overall athletic performance.
Surf Knowledge: Learning what’s behind the art of surfing: surfboards, fins, equipment, wave mechanics, surf etiquette, and the fundamentals that every surfer should know.
Coastal Ecology and Conservation: Exploring the coastal environment, marine species identification and understanding, beach exploration, and conservation activities.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
Professional Surf Instruction: At least two surf sessions daily, led by experienced coaches focused on safety, progress, and fun.
Surfboard Provided for Each Student: All boards and gear are included, so campers can just show up ready to surf!
Ocean Awareness and Rescue Skills: We discuss ocean emergency protocols and procedures.
Surf Theory and Wave Education: Fun, interactive lessons that teach technique, ocean awareness, and how to understand different surf conditions.
Coastal Ecology and Conservation: Campers learn to protect the ocean they love through daily environmental activities.
Exclusive Camp Jersey: Surf campers wear an official JBSA jersey, designed for sun protection and island style.
Sponsor Giveaways All Summer Long: Each camper has the chance to receive gear from our amazing sponsors.
Sun Protection: We provide mineral-based, reef-safe sunscreen courtesy of our amazing sponsor, Kokua Sun Care.
Shade for Surfers: We provide shade with our JBSA tents to help protect surfers from the sun.
Shade for Parents: We provide shade and chairs from our incredible sponsor, Shibumi, for parents who stay to watch their kids during Summer Camp.
CAMP SCHEDULE
9:45 – 10:00 AM: Camper Drop-Off
Campers arrive, meet their coaches, organize their gear, and start the day with balance games on our Indo Boards while everyone gets ready for the fun ahead.
10:00 – 10:20 AM: Morning Stretch and Warm-up
We stretch, move, and play fun beach games to wake up our bodies and get ready for the water.
10:20 – 10:40 AM: Ocean Time and Body Surfing
We check the surf conditions together and enjoy body surfing while learning about the ocean and building water confidence.
10:40 – 11:00 AM: Surf Skills on the Sand
Campers practice pop-ups, learn ocean safety, and work on surfing fundamentals before heading into the waves.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Surf Session #1
Time to surf! Coaches work with campers to help them catch waves, improve their skills, and have fun in the water.
12:00 – 12:30 PM: Lunch and Beach Break
A chance to relax under the tent, enjoy lunch, make new friends, and get ready for more beach fun.
12:30 – 1:45 PM: Surf Session #2 or Beach Activity
The adventure continues with another surf session or exciting beach activities.
1:45 – 2:00 PM: Camp Wrap-Up
We celebrate the day’s accomplishments, share our favorite moments, and finish with our daily beach clean-up, leaving the beach even better than we found it.
